A few months ago I found myself back in Ghent, Belgium, home to one of my worst travel disasters. I had attempted a ‘drive by sightseeing’ visit and it failed miserably. I left grumpy and vowed to never again return. Until I did. On my return visit I spent a lot more time in the Flemish city, got to know it fairly well and in the process ended up really enjoying my time there. Here is a brief look at some of the highlights of my time there; photos that I hope will convince you to add Ghent to your must-visit travel list.
I had no expectations the 1st time I went to Ghent, and was surprised to find it was so lovely – your photos capture it well, although amongst all those lovely old buildings my fav is the old graffiti alley way – cool!
The graffiti wall is awesome and such a great idea!
Looks like they’ve got more to offer than just waffles. Actually, it’s places like these that sort of remind me that famous places get famous for weirdly unpredictable reasons, yet there are plenty of other places out there that are just as interesting. You never hear many people talking about Gent, but the scenery would be right at home in Amsterdam, which everyone seems to know something about.
Exactly right, poor Gent often gets overlooked
Hello Matt
Phenomenal pictures!
Thank you :-)

I agree with Nathalie!
I loved Belgium, such warm people and such a love of fantasy. I was delighted by your photo, Matt, of the shoes dangling from the overhead wire, appearing–to me–like disembodied feet marching through the air. That’s what I’d call a Magritte moment! surreal.
The shoes were weird, but I loved their quirkiness
Loved Ghent, the people and the Graffiti street
Just like the fairy tales, Ghent is fantastic! :D Would love to be here someday!
Great Photographs Matt you get such great clarity and charm into them. Ghent is a lovely place to visit not just for the history but for the food also.

These are some pictures from Ghent I took nearly two years ago. We have taken a picture of the same building, (I think its a restaurant) your’s above by day and mine by night.
Thanks Mark and thanks for sharing!
Hi, please can u assist me in finding out what is the best transportation between Ghent and Burge?
I am planning to spend one day in Burge and one day Ghent, is this enough?
Thank you
Just take the train!
Gorgeous photos! I’ll be visiting this coming January and absolutely cannot wait! Especially when I see pictures as beautiful as these :)
