Three Years of Blogging – Happy LoperVersary!

hot air balloon napa valley

Three years ago today I hit publish on my first blog post, The Dogs of Santorini, Greece. Such an innocent start to what would ultimately become a life changing event. I started the blog because I needed an outlet, some creative way to express myself. My job at the time was anything but exciting or interesting and I needed to reintroduce that element into my life. I had no idea what LandLopers would ultimately do for me.

Since March 14, 2010 I have hit the publish button 2,100 times. That sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? Well 828 of those posts are my daily news roundups and another 420 are photos or a photo series. The rest though are all carefully crafted and hopefully well thought out posts about my travel experiences and life. But LandLopers is much greater than the sum of its parts, it has come to define who I am.

As many of you know, I lost my job last summer; a fact that has had some fairly intense repercussions. Looking back at it I now see that it was just another piece of the puzzle falling into place, a series of events that began when I published that first post about Greek dogs. Travel blogging is what I do now and I’m always looking for ways to improve my craft and to make this as enjoyable a web site to read as possible. But ultimately none of this could have happened without one element – you.

I cannot thank you all enough, the hundreds of thousands of people who have read this site over the last three years. You have made me laugh when I didn’t think it possible and challenged me to look at the world in ways I hadn’t considered. LandLopers is so much more than my posts and your comments, it’s a community. It’s a community of people with a passion to explore the world and hopefully to learn from those experiences. It’s a community of smart, slightly sarcastic at times, people who aren’t content to let the world pass them by. It’s a community of kind, openhearted people who know that the best way to improve their lives is by learning as much about the world around them as possible.

So thank you. Thank you for stopping by every day, reading, commenting and sharing. Thank you for reading my sometimes entertaining, sometimes rambling thoughts on the world. Thank you for helping me find direction in my own life and making me realize what is and what is not truly important.

Happy LoperVersary to everyone and let’s hope for another amazing three years!

This is your site too, what things would you like to see here?
