Walking Through New York During the Holidays

Even a city as large and extreme as New York City gets into the holiday spirit, although in a way completely unique from any other city in the world. A combination of long held traditions and more modern but no less fun experiences have crafted the Christmas festivities New York enjoys today and that make it one of the best places to visit during the holidays.

I recently was a guest of the Marriott Marquis, one of the most iconic hotels in New York and a perfect location from which to launch your visit and see the best the city has to offer. Even though I was here working I had some time to explore on my own. I spent the day walking around New York, soaking in the Christmas feeling. Every block seemed to feature roasting nuts, busy shoppers and the constant ringing of bells for the annual charity drive. There’s nothing like a New York City Christmas, as these photos show.

  1. Really great shots!

Big cities are always so great to visit this time of year, when they’re all decorated in their holiday finest!

  2. Many people book accommodations only by prices, I always thought that location is not less important. Being in the right hotel at the right moment offers you the possibility to be part of the scenery, to be in the middle of he action; and not just passing by as looking through a shop window.
I had the opportunity to spend many nights at Marriott hotels, they are truly great hotels!

  3. EVERY SINGLE YEAR I’m like ‘I’m going to go walk around the city during Christmas time’ (I live 70 miles outside the city right near a very convenient bus line) and I STILL haven’t made it there (though I did go to Pittsburgh this year, and I have to say–it’s pretty darn festive). Thanks for this post–I can pretend I made it there. Also, as everyone else has said, STUNNING photos. I aspire to this level of photo awesomeness!

  4. This year was my first year living in NYC and I checked out many of these locations you visited last year. NYC is indeed a special place for Christmas time.

One comment about your write up – the “roasting nuts” (probably Nuts 4 Nuts) you saw on every corner are around all year and aren’t holiday-specific.

  5. I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to visit New York and your article sparked an interest in me to go this December. The pictures are beautiful and it looks so romantic! Let the planning begin.
