Travel Is All About the People Photo Series

This week the #FriFotos theme is fittingly GRATEFUL, in recognition of Thanksgiving here in the U.S. I decided to show how thankful I am for all of the great people I have met during my travels. More than anything else, it is the people we meet that elevate travel from mere sightseeing to a transformative life experience. While it was hard, here are some of my favorite people I’ve met on recent trips.

Megan Kingmik
Megan owns Kingmik Dogsled Tours in Alberta, Canada and her love for her pups is obvious in everything she does. I love this candid moment with her and a couple members of her team.

Masiphumelele Township in Cape Town
I met this little girl while biking around Masiphumelele Township in Cape Town. Although the surroundings may be austere, she definitely had style and struck a pose
regardless of whether or not photos were being taken.

La Vall de Bianya chef and mayor
This fine group of people made an amazing Spanish lunch for us in La Vall de Bianya in Spain’s Pyrenees. Believe it or not, one of these folks is even the mayor but what impressed me the most was their warm and gracious hospitality.

Thai boat
My guide for a day trip outside of Bangkok was one of the nicest ladies I have ever met and true to Thai form always had a smile on her face.

Camus cognac
At the House of Camus cognac distillery in Cognac, France guests can choose to go through a cognac blending class with the Camus international ambassador Monsieur Dezauzier. International Cognac Ambassador – how cool is that?

Brussels
I found this eclectic jazz trio performing at the Brussels Winter Festival. I have no idea who they are but I had a blast listening to them.

More Spanish hospitality! These gentlemen serenaded us after a massive but exceptional lunch near the sea in the Costa Brava.

  1. Hi Matt,
“More than anything else, it is the people we meet that elevate travel from mere sightseeing to a transformative life experience.”
This is the first of your blog posts I read, but it surely isn’t the last. This is the very core of our tour companies philosophy – it’s in fact one of the main reasons why we call ourselves “we tours” – because it’s about people more than places! So glad when I read your words.
Also, do you still have your Bangkok guide’s contact info? Would be much appreciated, we always love to get to know great guides :-)
    Best wishes from Bangkok,
    Ramin
