Five Reasons to Stop Dreaming and Travel Now

People are really good at coming up with excuses NOT to do things and sadly travel is a frequent victim. I don’t have enough money, I don’t have enough time, I’m too old, I’m too young, I’m under indictment – these are all ways people rationalize not living for the now and getting out there and seeing the best the world has to offer. Life is short and the experiences are many, here are five reasons not why you should travel now, but why you have to.

  1. It’s amazing how people can simultaneously forget to live and then procrastinate like they’ll live forever. Very nice visual reminder of all the life there is to experience!

    1. I think I need to cut that phrase out and glue it to my laptop screen. And my forehead.

Great photos Matt, and a good reminder to just get out there and do it already.

  2. These are great pictures, and even better reasons to travel! Those food pictures made my mouth water, and I’ve just eaten lunch. Plus, that puppy is probably the cutest thing I’ve seen all day. Hopefully this will give some people the motivation they need to start planning their next trip.

    1. Me, too. I’ll file this under “Beautiful fantasies”. Great photos and an amazing philosophy, but unrealistic for most of us.

  3. I totally agree with you. People should travel and experience cultural differences between countries. If you really don’t have money, go and visit far end of your own country – you will find so many things that you haven’t known before that you will be surprised.

  4. Excellent presentation of the reasons why we should travel NOW. Some people actually think that it is impractical. What they don’t understand is that traveling is not just about going places. It’s all about the experience and the exploration, not of the world, but of life itself.

  5. LOVE this post, and love the churro’s with chocolate sauce. Had them in Granada-YUM! I couldn’t agree more. No more excuses. Ever again! No money? isn’t that what a line of credit is for? her

  6. You have captured the essence of traveling; the food that you eat, the people that you meet and the sights that you see. If there I had to choose one of those reasons for traveling, I would say that its the people that I meet. They often make my trip, and provide the best memories!

  7. Just found this via @HolidayInn ‘s tweet. Awesome photos!! Where did you do the dog sledding?

  8. What a great jolt towards the start of 2013. I travel a lot for work and have had a lot of adventures that way. But I always wished to travel without having to think of work and I seriously will get into it this coming year. Thank you for this. I love your blog. You have such insightful posts. Keep inspiring. :)

  9. Fantastic images! you have push me up and make me eager to go out for vacation. Now i am headache on choosing destination for my first stop of the tour.

  10. I’ve heard almost every excuse in the book as to why people have not travelled. What really gets me is when people say “you’re lucky to have been to so many places”. I don’t think luck has much to do with it. Whether you go or not really depends on whether you make it a priority in your life and whether you want to take that step out of your comfort zone.

Many uninitiated folks think that travel automatically entails staying in 4 or 5 star hotels at hundreds of dollars a night; it’s no wonder so many people get the wrong impression that travel has to break the bank. I’ve stayed in some places for weeks for the same price as a few nights elsewhere, all with some solid planning and not expecting all the comforts of home. If you really want to get out and travel (and not just make empty promises to yourself about it), you’ll find a way to make it happen!

Absolutely agree with you, Ryan. I travel on the proverbial shoestring as I’m retired, but travel is very important to me especially while I’m still energetic and enthusiastic. I’m always planning my next trip …. And since I discovered the joys of home exchange, there’s no stopping me! Can’t decide whether it’ll be New York or Paris next ….

  11. This is the BEST way to push someone out of their slumber! I could stare at these pictures forever ! Subscribing to your blog now!

  12. Great article. I feel the exact same way, in fact, I wrote a post about the same subject not too long ago. I wish people that don’t travel knew what they are missing before it’s too late.

  13. Amazing pictures, especially the Masada cliffs shot in Israel, definitely going to be on my destinations list.

  14. Don’t wait until you are older to travel.. Live life fully when you are young; travel even if you have to give up other things… Life flies by so quickly and we never know what is ahead for us. Last year despite a healthy lifestyle I was diagnosed with cancer ( I will b ok), my cousin died at 42 and my dad at 62. Live each year like there might not be another one!

    1. That’s very true, at the same time though just because you’re NOT in your 20s doesn’t mean you can’t get out there and have amazing experiences. I know that I do.

  15. Love your blog. Traveling is in my blood as well! I’m 62 and really just getting started. I’m about to embark on a round-the-world trip with my 14 year old son. We are both itching to get started! Keep traveling..keep writing.
    Regards
    Arthur
