Travel Spotlight – Wat Po, the Super Size Buddha of Bangkok

Wat Po was one of the first sites we visited in Bangkok and is still one of my favorites. Also called the Reclining Buddha, Wat Po (or Pho) is the oldest and without doubt the largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok, dating back to the 16th century.

We walked there from the Grand Palace, which is only ten minutes away, not sure what to expect. We were confronted by was a massive Buddha statue so large that it’s a real challenge to capture the essence of the experience in film.

Something I didn’t realize until afterwards is that Wat Po is also where Thai massage got its start. Even today you can still get a thorough Thai massage for less than $10. Not a bad deal.
