MSC Cruises goes in big on the U.S. market

The MSC Meraviglia arrived here on Monday from Europe, with MSC Cruises executives noting more than once that it is the largest cruise ship to dock in Manhattan.

The Meraviglia (pronounced Mer-a-VEE-lia) is sailing three cruises from New York, and then it will reposition to Miami for the winter season. The Meraviglia joins the MSC Seaside, the line’s year-round ship in the Caribbean, and the MSC Divina and MSC Armonia this fall. For the first time, MSC has four ships serving the North American market simultaneously.

 

American Airlines Extends Boeing 737 MAX Cancellations Into January

Officials from American Airlines announced Wednesday they are extending the cancellation of Boeing 737 MAX flights through at least January 15.

According to Reuters.com, American revealed it believes software updates to the 737 MAX fleet will soon be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will lead to the “recertification of the aircraft later this year and resumption of commercial service in January 2020.”

 

California bans hotels from using tiny plastic bottles

Hotels in California will have to stop giving guests small plastic shampoo bottles under a new law.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday he had signed a law banning hotels from giving guests plastic bottles filled with shampoo, conditioner or soap.

The law takes effect in 2023 for hotels with more than 50 rooms and 2024 for hotels with less than 50 rooms.

 

Chinese tourism growth slows as overseas travel loses its luster

The rapid growth of Chinese tourism took a bit of a breather during the latest week-long National Day holiday, government data indicate.

The seven-day vacation from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7 is dubbed “Golden Week” and is one of the few major government-mandated holidays in a country where personal vacation days are few. This year’s National Day was particularly significant domestically since it revolved around massive celebrations on Oct. 1 for the 70th anniversary of the Communist Party’s rule.
