American Airlines retired its final McDonnel Douglas MD-80 aircraft Wednesday, ending a 36-year run operating a plane affectionately called the Super 80.
American’s final scheduled MD-80 flight departed Dallas/Fort Worth and landed at Chicago O’Hare at 11:32 a.m. local time, according to the website Flight Aware. Most of American’s 26 remaining MD-80s were slated to take their final flights on Wednesday to the aircraft boneyard in Roswell, N.M.
Hurricane Dorian is the strongest storm ever to hit the Bahamas, and the country will struggle to get its tourism-based economy back on track for quite some time.
Dorian has been moving slowly over the islands. The storm made landfall Sunday over the Abacos Islands as a Category 5 with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. It has slightly weakened to a Category 2 storm. At least five people have died as a result of the storm.

That was in early May. Four months later, the Seattle nonprofit director is still waiting. The $100 fee for the five-year membership showed up on his American Express bill several statements ago, but his Global Entry account still says “pending review.”
