Luxury Hotels Want to Make You Feel Culturally Relevant

Luxury hotels today are opening with a new amenity that seeks to satiate its curious clientele while simultaneously courting locals for a visit. The emergence of cultural programming at luxury properties is a global trend seen from the artistic center of Johannesburg to the countryside outside London.

The ever-evolving definition of luxury now includes knowledge and information as well as intimate access to influencers and experts.

 

Venezuela: State Department warns Americans not to travel to country

Americans should not travel to Venezuela, the U.S. State Department warned in a new advisory on Tuesday.

Citing “crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, and arbitrary arrest and detention of U.S. citizens,” the State Department’s guidance cautioned that the U.S. government has limited ability to help American citizens in Venezuela.

 

From Shinola to West Elm, retailers find hotels make great stores

Back in 1999, Westin was among the first hospitality brands to make a major retail move with its Westin Heavenly Bed mattress. Since then, the concept of hotels padding their bottom lines with retail sales has evolved significantly.

For proof, one need look no further than Detroit’s Shinola Hotel, which officially opened earlier this month and marked the first hotel for the Detroit-based luxury watchmaker Shinola. The company’s Runwell Desk Clock, as well as a Shinola-made alpaca throw blanket and signature candle, are showcased in each of the property’s 129 guestrooms.

 

World of Hyatt Expands Partnership with Small Luxury Hotels

World of Hyatt announced Wednesday the continued expansion of the strategic loyalty alliance with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).

As part of the expanded partnership, World of Hyatt members will be able to earn and redeem points and enjoy on-property member benefits in 56 additional SLH properties around the world, bringing the total count to 110 participating properties in the program.
