IHG Will Bring Kimpton to 20 New Global Locations

The Kimpton hotel brand is poised for worldwide expansion over the next three to five years.

InterContinental Hotels Group has just announced that it plans to open more than 25 Kimpton hotels across 20 new global destinations including Mexico City, Paris, Barcelona, Bali and Shanghai.

 

Virgin Voyages unveils suite designs for first ship

Virgin Voyages said its first ship will debut in 2020 with 78 Rock Star Suites, featuring a retro-futurism design with a palette of deep blues used with iridescent dichroic elements to echo the deep blue sea.

The suites, designed by Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio, come in eight versions and range from a 352-square-foot Serious Suite to the 2,147-square-foot Massive Suite.

 

Southwest Airlines to ax Mexico City flights

Southwest Airlines is dropping Mexico City from its route map.

The low-cost giant currently flies to the Mexican capital from Houston Hobby, its seventh-busiest airport as measured by daily departures. Flights will end March 30.

Southwest said it’s making the move “as we continue to optimize our flight schedules,” adding it will “reallocate” its planes and resources used for Mexico City service “to better opportunities within our existing route network.”

 

300 crocodiles relocated to protect tourists at world’s tallest statue

India has come under fire for relocating almost 300 crocodiles from the bottom of the new Statue of Unity so tourists can reach it by seaplane.

The reptiles are being lured into cages so they can be moved by truck elsewhere in the western state of Gujarat, where the world’s tallest statue at 597ft stands.
