Virgin Voyages Reveals Details of RockStar Suites

Virgin Voyages is currently building its first cruise ship, the Scarlet Lady, which will set sail at the beginning of 2020. However, with its much-anticipated ship on the way, the new cruise line has unveiled details of its exclusive RockStar Suites.

The suites are steeped in the Virgin brand’s rock and roll heritage and offer a fresh take on the glamour of yachting.

The suites’ retro-futurism design, spearheaded by Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio, is inspired by mega yachts and the glory days of rock and roll and features a palette of deep blues used with iridescent dichroic elements to echo the deep blue color of the sea.

 

Marriott unveils name for its new unified loyalty program: Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott International has a name for its new loyalty program since merging with Starwood Hotels and Resorts—Marriott Bonvoy.

Marriott Bonvoy will replace three previous loyalty programs, Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). The three programs merged last August but this is the official naming of the unified product.

The program will launch on Feb. 13 with a new logo and branding online and on the ground at properties.

 

Shutdown a wet blanket on leisure travel

The government shutdown is affecting leisure travel, with 16% of Americans canceling or planning to cancel a vacation because of the shutdown, according to a MMGY survey.

Most travelers are canceling vacation plans because of closed government-owned attractions (70%) like national parks. Sixty-seven percent cited not being sure what is open in a destination. Potential tax refund delays and safety concerns were also common answers, with 65% of respondents indicating both reasons are a concern. A number of respondents (61%) were concerned with longer airport security lines.

 

Moxy Hotels Expand Throughout Southern United States

Moxy Hotels, Marriott International’s experiential hotel brand, is expanding in the Southeastern U.S. with the recent opening of Moxy Chattanooga Downtown and the anticipated openings of Moxy Atlanta Midtown, Moxy Memphis Downtown, Moxy Nashville Vanderbilt at Hillsboro Village, Moxy Nashville Downtown and Moxy Louisville.

Moxy Chattanooga Downtown was the first to open in November, with the remaining openings expected to follow in 2019.
