Rome Issues New Laws to Combat Rowdy Tourists

Officials in Rome are cracking down on bad behaving tourists amid overtourism concerns.

The city council issued a handful of urban police regulations this week that call for repercussions for various missteps, including drinking on public streets after 10 p.m. and bathing in the destination’s iconic fountains, among other violations.

 

Greenland seeks tourists, investors with new airports

Greenland’s parliament has adopted a plan to upgrade or build airports to serve the massive North Atlantic island, keen to attract more tourists to its pristine Arctic wilderness.

Two airports — in the capital Nuuk and in the tourism centre Ilulissat — will be substantially upgraded, making it possible to fly directly to Greenland from Europe and North America.

A new national airport will be built in Qaqortoq in the south.

Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory. The plans have been controversial because of Copenhagen’s direct financial involvement.

 

Cruise giant Carnival to offer first voyages from New York to Cuba

You’ll soon be able to cruise regularly to Cuba from New York City.

Cruise giant Carnival on Tuesday said two of its vessels would sail to the island nation out of the Big Apple starting in 2020.

The voyages will take place on the soon-to-be-revamped Carnival Triumph and Carnival Victory, which will be sailing under the names Carnival Sunrise and Carnival Radiance by the time the trips begin. The ships are undergoing makeovers so big the line plans to rechristen them with new names.

 

Disney unveils details about Star Wars, other park attractions

Disney Parks experiences and consumer products chairman Bob Chapek made several announcements on Saturday about new park activities, and he provided additional details about previously announced attractions.

When the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area opens in Disneyland next summer and in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in fall 2019, Chapek said visitors will be able to assume three different roles on the “Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run” attraction, and join in a battle between the First Order and the Resistance — including a face-off with Kylo Ren — at “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.”
