Lebanon’s Grand Sofar Hotel reopens after four decades

Since Lebanon’s civil war of the 1970s and 80s many buildings in the country have lain ruined and unused.

The Grand Sofar Hotel was once a famous meeting point for celebrities and politicians around the Middle East.

 

Cancun Takes Proactive Measures to Ensure Tourist Areas Remain Safe

A military police base has been established just north of Cancun in Isla Mujeres as Mexican officials take proactive steps to ensure the destination’s popular tourist areas remain safe.

President Enrique Pena Nieto said Cancun and surrounding areas “should offer optimal security conditions for the millions of visitors who come here each year,” the Associated Press reported.

 

Ritz-Carlton floats out first yacht

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection said it held a launch ceremony for its first ship at the Hijos De J. Barreras Shipyard in Vigo, Spain.

The ship was moved down a slipway and into the water for the first time. Construction will continue on the interior finishes of the 298-passenger ship for the next year or so.

Ritz-Carlton said it will hold a naming ceremony for the as yet unnamed ship in December.

 

Have 19 hours? Singapore Airlines retakes title for longest commercial flight

The world’s longest direct commercial flight is back and taking travelers from Singapore to the New York region.

Operated by Singapore Airlines, the city-state’s national carrier, the trip takes slightly under 19 hours. Skipping a stopover in Frankfurt will save hours of traveling time, the carrier says.

Starting Thursday, the route between Changi Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey will be served three times a week. A week later, the carrier will offer daily flights, after a second Airbus A350-900ULR aircraft is delivered.
