Parliament approved plans to make Europe’s busiest airport even bigger, backing on Monday what the government described as the most important transportation decision in a generation.
The House of Commons voted overwhelmingly, 415-119, to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport after hours of debate on the 14 billion-pound ($18.6 billion) project. The decision follows decades of study and argument over how to expand airport capacity in southeastern England, and it is certain to be challenged in the courts.
Five thousand police officers will be on duty every day this summer in Paris to help tourists and protect them from the plague of pickpockets and scam artists who prey on foreign visitors.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure that tourists are secure in a safe and peaceful city without transforming the city into a bunker,” said Paris police chief Michel Delpuech as he visited police on duty around the Louvre museum.
The Louvre is one of seven sites in the French capital that will be getting special police attention this summer.

The brand, long known for its affiliation with music and musicians, has announced plans to launch its very own music festival.
Come September, the hotel will begin the global roll-out of “WAKE UP CALL” a festival series that takes the music off of the hot, dusty field and brings it onto fabulous hotel grounds around the planet.
In 2018, WAKE UP CALL will make stops at W properties in Hollywood, California; Barcelona, Spain and Bali, Indonesia. And in early 2019 it will also visit Dubai, W executives told TravelPulse.
