Atlantis resort opens in China
China’s first Atlantis Resort has opened on Hainan Island, featuring the Ambassador Lagoon, the world’s largest open-air aquarium.
The 1,314-room Atlantis Sanya has five suites and one restaurant that are “underwater,” meaning that they feature floor-to-ceiling windows that look into the Ambassador Lagoon. The resort also features the two-story Lost Chambers Aquarium, the twisting water slides of Aquaventure Waterpark, Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen and Bar and an Ahava spa.
Forget tourist traps selling T-shirts or snow globes. There’s an “Amazon-sized opportunity” in selling people experiences, says Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.
“There’s going to be another economy, and it will be the experience economy. You’ll see these modern-day, bite-sized apprenticeships, where you’re exposed to something new,” said Chesky in an interview with USA TODAY.
Airbnb’s Experiences program, introduced to great fanfare in 2016, was designed to meet the desires of its traveling customers to immerse themselves in an activity during their vacations, be it taking a calligraphy lesson, learning a traditional Malay dance or writing a song with a band leader.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago’s airline carriers are in the final stages of negotiating a blockbuster $8.5 billion deal to dramatically expand O’Hare International Airport with a state-of-the-art global terminal, dozens of new gates and several additional concourses, the Chicago Tribune has learned.
The eight-year plan would be the single largest and most expensive terminal revamp in O’Hare’s 73-year history. The goal is to vault the airline hub long known for its gridlock and delays into the 21st century by growing its sluggish number of international flights and creating more room for its domestic carriers.
A new coalition of powerful business groups is set to propose a raft of proposals to stem a decline in tourism by making it easier for visitors to come to the country.
The Visit U.S. Coalition, formed last month by more than a dozen major business groups, will call for expanding and renaming the Visa Waiver Program, according to a draft set of policy recommendations given to the Washington Examiner. The coalition also will push for greater access to travel visas and increased efficiency at Customs, along with ramped-up hiring of Customs and Border Protection officers.
The group is hoping to liberalize some aspects of the border system at the same time that the Trump administration has sought to tighten border controls and increase immigration restrictions, including President Trump’s travel ban executive order.Add to Flipboard Magazine.
