Maldives tries to fight off travel alerts as tourists stay away

Tourists have been cancelling hundreds of hotel bookings in Maldives every day since the imposition of a state of emergency last week, tour operators say, despite government assurances things are normal in the resort islands, far from the capital.

China, India, the United States and Britain issued travel warnings after President Abdulla Yameen imposed the emergency and arrested judges who had ordered him to free jailed opposition leaders.


Rosewood opens atop Cambodia’s tallest building

The Rosewood Phnom Penh has opened atop the tallest building in Cambodia.

The 175-room hotel occupies the 14 upper floors of the 39-story, 617-foot Vattanac Capital Tower.

The hotel features the 37th floor Sora (the Japanese word for “sky”), which sits on a cantilevered terrace and is the city’s highest bar; Iza, an izakaya-style Japanese restaurant; the 35th floor Brasserie Louis, featuring French and Cambodian cuisine; and the Living Room, a residential-like retreat serving breakfast, snacks and evening cocktails.

The cruise line announced the Norwegian Sun will offer travelers the chance to explore the Caribbean for a limited season this fall on seven, nine and 13-day cruises. The voyages will include stops in Havana and some of the most popular Caribbean destinations.


Lufthansa unveils new aircraft paint scheme; mixed reviews

Lufthansa unveiled a new paint scheme for its aircraft last week, becoming the latest big carrier to update the livery of its aircraft.

Lufthansa’s distinctive yellow will disappear from the outside of its planes in favor of a dark blue-and-white scheme. The airline says that newer, darker blue will become its “leading brand color,” though yellow is not going away completely. Lufthansa says it will still be found “on every boarding pass and at every Lufthansa counter at the airport, among other things.”

Staying is Lufthansa’s signature crane logo. It will remain on the tail, with the enclosing circle becoming thinner in the new two-color look.
