Half of Hawaii’s Coral Bleached in One Year
Heatwaves and the resulting increase in sea temperatures caused more than half of Hawaii’s coral to bleach over a one-year period.
The data was just one in a series of unhappy facts presented to Hawaii lawmakers on Thursday by a group of scientists led by the Nature Conservancy.
In a one-year period spanning 2014-2015, scientists estimate that bleaching affected 56 percent of the coral around the Big Island, 44 percent of that along West Maui and 32 percent around Oahu.
Four Seasons taking over One&Only Ocean Club
The Kerzner-managed One&Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas will be rebranded as a Four Seasons, effective Nov. 30.
Kerzner said property owner Access Industries terminated their management agreement, and that it “objects to the grounds of the termination and intends to vigorously oppose it through the standard process and protocols.”
With the management change, the resort will be called the Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort, Bahamas.
Qatar Airways announced it intends to purchase a nearly 10% stake in Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific Airways.
Both airlines are members of the oneworld frequent-flier alliance, an arrangement that allows each carrier’s customers to earn and redeem miles on the other’s flights.
Tourists have descended on a unique Sydney street to take pictures with a canopy of bright purple flowers.
The Jacaranda flowers, which bloom for six weeks during the Australian summer, are out in force in McDougall Street in the neighbourhood of Kirribilli.
