Amtrak and Lyft Announce Partnership

Rail company Amtrak and ride-hailing service Lyft have teamed up to make it easier for travelers to get from the train station to their destination.

Customers can now use Amtrak’s mobile app to request a ride via a connection to the Lyft app. First-time Lyft users will be eligible to receive $5 off each of their first four Lyft rides by using the promo code: AMTRAKLYFT.


JW Marriott to be built at Orlando’s Bonnet Creek

Another JW Marriott hotel is coming to Orlando, and it will be built at Bonnet Creek, a resort development surrounded by the Walt Disney World Resort.

Construction of the JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek will begin later this year. Marriott anticipates an opening in the first quarter of 2020.

Among the luxury hotel’s 516 guestrooms will be 80 suites. In addition to two presidential suites, there will be 16 two-bedroom suites with optional connections to create four-bedroom family units.


Airlines warn of EU airport delays

British Airways and Easyjet have sent text alerts to customers warning of delays at EU border controls.

BA said it is asking travellers to arrive early as it is expecting longer queues due to “enhanced immigration checks” across Europe.

The airline has already sent text messages to customers flying back from Lyon, Madrid, Barcelona and Milan.


William Shatner urges cruise ship bosses to halt dolphin entertainment

William Shatner is imploring owners of a new Star Trek cruise not to hold dolphins in captivity as part of the entertainment on-board.

The star, who famously portrayed Captain Kirk on the sci-fi TV hit, has written a letter urging those running Norwegian Jade’s Star Trek: The Cruise to no longer offer a “swim with dolphins” experience for passengers.

In the request, released by officials at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) on Thursday (03Aug17), the actor accuses the cruise company bosses of exploiting the sea animals for profit.
