KLM testing facial recognition for boarding at Amsterdam Schiphol

Dutch carrier KLM is trialing a new biometric boarding technology at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport that allows passengers to go through the gate without showing a document.

The solution, developed by electronic identity solutions company Vision Box, uses facial recognition. Its goal, Vision Box said, is to expedite passenger boarding.


Taj Unites Global Hotel Portfolio Under Single Brand

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), also known as Taj, announced Thursday that all of the hotels in its global portfolio will be brought together under a single brand, Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris.

The new architecture will result in the company’s hotels being grouped under one of four different categories: Taj Hotels; Taj Palaces: Taj Resorts and Taj Safaris.


Lithuanian Tourism Caught Using Other Countries’ Photos in Social Media Campaign

The head of Lithuania’s state tourism agency has resigned after admitting her agency promoted the Baltic country in an international social media campaign by using landscape photos taken in other countries.

Jurgita Kazlauskiene resigned Friday after local media had blasted the State Tourism Department for its campaign “Real is Beautiful” for using stock images from Nordic and eastern European countries.


Havana’s newest hotel will set mark for luxury

Geneva-based Kempinski Hotels said Tuesday that it plans to open a five-star hotel this spring in the Old Havana section of the Cuban capital, giving Havana a luxury offering that has been missing from its hotel mix.

Kempinski will operate the 246-room hotel — The Gran Hotel Kempinski Manzana La Habana — in the historic Manzana de Gómez building under a management contract with Cuba’s Grupo de Turismo Gaviota.
