The ambitious Avatar-themed land will open at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, and Star Wars-themed lands will open at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger said during the company’s fiscal first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.
The Avatar-themed land is “the biggest new land that we’ve opened in Florida in a very long time and I think that’s good for the whole business down there,” said Iger, adding that this addition to the Animal Kingdom park is expected to transform it “into a much fuller experience and that gives it a lot of potential.”
Holland America partners with Oprah’s magazine
Holland America Line has teamed up with “O, The Oprah Magazine” in a partnership that includes onboard programming, themed cruises and an appearance by Oprah Winfrey on one Alaska cruise this summer.
Oprah will be on the Eurodam’s Alaska cruise that departs Seattle on July 15, for two nights. The magazine said the Holland America partnership dovetails with Oprah’s “Year of Adventure” in 2017.
European luxury hotel group Kempinski Hotels announced Tuesday that it has put pen to paper on a management contract with Cuba’s Grupo de Turismo Gaviota to open the country’s first five-star hotel.
The Miami Herald reported the 246-room Gran Hotel Kempinski Manzana La Habana will open inside Old Havana’s historic Manzana de Gómez building this upcoming spring.
