Spending The Night In Asia’s Most Impressive Room: The InterContinental Hong Kong Presidential Suite

InterContinental Hong Kong

Just about every room at the InterContinental Hong Kong is impressive, thanks in large part to the luxury hotel’s amazing position on Victoria Harbour. The property lives up to the company’s ethos of superior service in exceedingly comfortable surroundings. But there’s one room that goes beyond anything you’ve ever seen before – the $13,000 a night, 7,000 square-foot Presidential Suite.

I arrived in Hong Kong on an easy and comfortable flight on Cathay Pacific and through a wonderful quirk of fate, I had the opportunity to spend the night in this remarkable space, routinely called the best in Asia and one of the most luxurious in the entire world. To properly enjoy this room takes days, but I did my best to enjoy what will probably be the best hotel experience of my life in the few short hours I had there.

Completed in 2006 at a cost of $2.5 million, the 5-bedroom Presidential Suite is a one of a kind luxury experience that includes:

  • a duplex living room with 2-storey plate-glass windows with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
  • wrap-around harbourview terrace (2500 sq. feet) with a rooftop infinity swimming pool and Jacuzzi overlooking Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island, providing an “IMAX” experience of Hong Kong.
  • impressive views can also be found in most of the other rooms of the suite including the gym, private office and master bedroom and bath. The bathroom, by the way, includes a massive shower, Jacuzzi and both a sauna and steam room.

But what is it like to actually stay in a room like the Presidential Suite? In short, it is truly an amazing experience. It was a beautiful night and I immediately jumped into the infinity pool with its incredible and sweeping views of the city. It’s usually impossible to have a feeling of privacy in a city like Hong Kong, but the private terrace accomplishes this feat in the most luxurious way imaginable. I didn’t feel like I was in a hotel, but in a private residence. Not a surprising sensation really since the suite is larger than my house. The beautiful design of the suite along with the private butler service and incomparable hospitality of the InterContinental made for an amazing and infinitely relaxing last evening in Hong Kong.

Just as in a fairy tale, my time in the beautiful suite came to an end as quickly as it started, but I am thankful for the experience. Thankful to experience Hong Kong in what is arguably the most luxurious way imaginable and to see just what is possible in this amazing city and hotel. While the Presidential Suite may not be in everyone’s future, the service and comfort on display there is representative of what you will find throughout the InterContinental Hong Kong. The Suite experience is not an outlier but an exemplar to show the world the type of hospitality all of the hotel’s guests enjoy, regardless of which room they call home for the evening.

Is there anything you want to know about the Presidential Suite experience?
