This weekend marks the beginning of what will be an incredible journey. On Sunday I board an EVA Airlines flight to Taipei where I will explore Taiwan for the first time. What will I see and do and why exactly am I going?
For the past year or so I have been an AFAR Ambassador, submitting Highlights and Wanderlists to their fantastic website. If you’re not familiar, AFAR Magazine is truly all about experiential travel. They understand the importance of traveling as a way to connect with people, learning more about them and in the process their culture. That’s also how I try to travel which is why the partnership has been such a good one. Well we’re about to take that relationship to the next level.
The trip to Taiwan is sponsored by Taiwan Tourism and I, along with two other Ambassadors, will be touring the country not just to share it in real time via social media and on our websites, but to provide rich and interesting content for both the AFAR website as well as a special advertorial feature in their printed magazine. I’m extremely excited about this new evolution in how print publications and digital content creators work together and I’m sure it will be a complete success.
So what am I doing EXACTLY in Taiwan? The short answer is, a lot. I won’t go into the entire itinerary, but the real focus isn’t just to see pretty things, it’s to get under the skin of the country and really start to understand what makes it tick. We’ll be focusing on the culture of Taiwan, the cuisine of Taiwan and the unique qualities and customs that make it an adventurous and healthy place to visit. Expect lots of photos, lots of stories and lots of excitement as I explore Taiwan for the first time.
Throughout my time I will be using the same hashtag to make it easier to find my posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram – everywhere. The hashtag is #TaiwanAFAR and it’s important to use it because I’m going to do a small drawing while I’m there. I’ll randomly draw one person who shares one of my posts using the hashtag to win a year’s subscription to AFAR Magazine and a basket of goodies from Taiwan.
The adventure starts on Monday and I can’t wait to share the beauty of Taiwan with everyone.
