Get to Know the Big Apple: 5 Fabulous Ways to See NYC

New York Times Square

The following guest post is brought to you by smartsave but as always all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

There’s so much to see and do in New York but it’s hard to know where to start. Taking a tour of the city is a great way to get an overall introduction, but New York is a city that can be explored from the ground, the air or even the water. Here are five ways to get a different view of the Big Apple.

1. Get those walking shoes on and explore New York on foot

Whether you’re heading to New York for the first time or you’re a regular visitor to this vibrant city, taking a walking tour is a fantastic way to see its many attractions. Many different operators provide guided tours of the city, including specialist tours like night tours and movie location tours.

2. Get a bird’s-eye view of the Big Apple on a helicopter tour

Taking a helicopter tour of New York is a great way for visitors to get their bearings and it’s an exhilarating experience that you won’t soon forget. A number of companies offer helicopter tours of New York, flying tourists over the Hudson River to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Yankee Stadium and more.

3. Unwind on the water on a New York boat tour

New York’s position at the mouth of the Hudson River means that it’s easy to get a stunning view of many of its attractions from the water. Tour operators such as Circle Line Downtown offer everything from leisurely sightseeing tours past Ellis Island and the new World Trade Center to exhilarating speedboat rides. Be sure to buy tickets online beforehand to simplify your itinerary.

4. Jump on board a New York bus tour

Taking a bus tour of New York is a great way to spend a few hours and children will love the views from the top deck of a big double decker bus. Check out the tickets for a ‘Hop on, Hop off’ tour as this gives flexibility to stop and spend some time exploring attractions like the Museum of Modern Art and Battery Park.

5. Pedal around the streets of New York

Cycling through a city is a superb way to explore – and it’s environmentally friendly, too. To be safe from the busier roads, take a guided bike tour of New York and explore miles of cycle paths while seeing both its world-famous and its lesser-known attractions. It’s more than worthwhile taking time to explore Central Park, enjoy the views from the Brooklyn Bridge and even take a tour of the Bronx.

If it proves impossible to decide which option you prefer, take a tour of New York which includes several of these options – this is a way to see this stunning city from several different perspectives.
