LandLopers Picks of the Year

Top Travel Blogs

Every week I compile a list of my favorite posts from bloggers on a variety of subjects. Since today is the last day of 2011, I thought I would instead pick a few of my favorite posts of the year and share them with you. There are scores more I loved, but for whatever reason these four resonated the most with me. Enjoy!

1. The Social Media Syndicate
This was one of the most exciting travel projects undertaken by bloggers this year and I just had to highlight it. I don’t normally highlight a Twitter hashtag, but I had to make an exception for the Social Media Syndicate Mongol Rally Adventure. If you’re not aware, four travel superstars drove from London to Mongolia in what is one of the most exciting adventures ever conceived. Every night I sat back and read their tweets and blog posts from the day, excited to be living vicariously through them as they traversed Europe and Asia.

Hashtag – #mongolsms Twitter Accounts – @ottsworld, @theplanetd, @RickGriffin Web sites and Blogs – Otts World, Midlife Road Trip, The Planet D

2. Unbrave Girl
Sally’s site is one of my favorites. I love her sense of humor and keen observations of what everyday life is like living in China. This is a fantastic look at some of her top travel mistakes from which we can all learn something.

3. yTravelBlog
If you follow my site, then it’s probably obvious that I love New Zealand. A lot. That’s why I enjoyed the series of posts by Caz and Craig in conjunction with their epic Kiwi Adventure. One of my favorite stops on my whirlwind trip to the land of the Kiwis was Rotorua, which Caz and Craig profile in this post. This is a great introduction to what is indeed a smelly, but wonderful, place. Be sure to also check out all of their New Zealand posts.

4. Go, See, Write
There’s been a lot of debate surrounding tourism and certain countries in the midst of internal turmoil. Michael tackles this sensitive subject as it relates specifically to Egypt in a position I whole heartedly agree with, but which many will not.
