As my readers are well aware, sustainable and responsible tourism is extremely important to me. As an avid traveler, it is vital that I do not simply take from the beautiful places I visit, but to give something back as well.
That is why I am thrilled to have the opportunity to explore one of Mexico’s shining stars in responsible travel – the Hacienda Tres Rios. Beginning Thursday, August 12, I, along with seven other travel writers and bloggers, will visit Tres Rios to see firsthand not only what makes this resort a true leader in green travel, but a great place to visit as well.
At the heart of our visit is a special event featuring representatives from Green Globe who will be making a special announcement. Green Globe is the premier global certification for sustainability and they work with many international organizations to gauge the true sustainability of travel and tourism businesses.
In 2009, Hacienda Tres Ríos joined an elite group of hotels and resorts worldwide when it first earned the prestigious Green Globe Certification. The resort’s sustainability efforts are awe-inspiring and I am excited to write about them upon my return.
In addition to learning more about the resort’s devotion to responsible tourism, we will of course be enjoying all of the activities and amenities that it has to offer. During our stay we will:
- Enjoy the unique Mesoamerican Temazcal Treatment. Temazcal, used in Mexico for centuries, is an ancient steam bath with curative and therapeutic benefits. Believed to balance body, mind, and spirit, this ceremonial practice has been used to prepare people for special milestones, such as marriage, birth, and other important occasions.
- Special dining, including a chef’s table dinner and tequila tasting.
