Library of Celsus
Located near the modern cities of Kusadasi and Selçuk, Turkey lies the ancient ruins of the Greek/Roman city of Ephesus. At the height of its power, Ephesus was home to more than 250,000 people and was one of the most important cities in the world. Located within the ruins of this once great metropolis is the Library of Celsus. Celsus was a wealthy and influential governor of Asia and the library was built in his memory by his son. The library itself not only housed in excess of 12,000 scrolls, but the sarcophagus of Celsus himself. The stunning architecture of this ancient library is still an incredible sight to behold, 1,900 years after its construction.
