Big Changes – Living the Travel Dream With A New Job

Over the past few months you all have read about 1) losing my old job and 2) how I’ve coped without said job. I won’t lie, it hasn’t been easy. Even though I hated my old job intensely, it paid the bills. As it turns out, people who send bills like to be paid. Luckily my partner’s job has helped out and although we’ve had to tighten our belts, things have been mostly fine. He’s been amazing throughout this entire process, taking a lot of the stress upon himself, which wasn’t fair but is deeply appreciated. He was also incredibly supportive of me throughout the last few months. Instead of pushing me to take another, well-paying job that I would hate, he encouraged me to find something that would enable me to continue pursuing my love of travel and the dream of working in the industry. That encouragement and the alignment of various celestial objects paid off and I’m extremely happy and excited to announce my new job.

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I’m able to announce that starting immediately, I will be working for TBEX, the Travel Blog Exchange in Business Development. If you’re not familiar with TBEX, it is the largest and oldest professional conference for travel bloggers. TBEX was acquired last year by BlogWorld/NMX, which runs the fabulously successful New Media Expo; THE event for anyone involved with blogging and new media. The job will entail not only promoting TBEX and sharing it with as many people as possible, but recruiting new companies and destinations to come to the shows as sponsors or exhibitors. TBEX has been growing exponentially and I am extremely proud to be able to work in helping grow this amazing conference.

There are several aspects to this job that make it a dream opportunity for me. First, it allows for a certain level of location independence, which means I can continue working from home or on the road as I travel. Second, I will be actively working in the industry I have come to love, travel blogging. We’re on the precipice of a new level of growth within the industry and I can’t wait to be a part of this evolution. Finally, it allows me to continue to grow my blog as I have for the last two and a half years. There’s no way I could ever take a job that would prevent me from continuing LandLopers; it’s just too important to me. This job with TBEX will keep me very busy, without a doubt, but I’ll continue to have plenty of time to write, edit and share amazing stories with you all from around the world.

So that’s it! You won’t see much of a change here on LandLopers because of this new job, except you may notice a happier tone in the writing. If that’s the worst thing that happens, I think I’m ok with that.
