Eurozone crisis knocks Greek tourist trade

International tourists are shunning Greece, and hampering the country’s economic recovery, as figures reveal that holidaymakers are deterred by the country’s role in the eurozone debt crisis.

The fall in the number of foreign visitors is a blow to a country that largely relies on tourism. Nearly 11% fewer tourists came to Greece between January and May than a year earlier, according to latest figures from the Bank of Greece. Holidaymakers who travelled to Greece spent €1.48bn (£1.2bn), 12.5% less than in the same period last year.

Drunken, sleeping tourist was lucky to survive Fraser Island dingo attack

A DISORIENTED and sleeping tourist attacked by a dingo pack on Fraser Island was lucky to be alive, rangers claim.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers believe at least two or more dingoes bit the man, 23, as he lay on a track after stumbling away from a tour group about 2am Saturday.

QPWS regional manager Ross Belcher said it was a terrifying incident for the man who was recovering in Hervey Bay hospital.

Delta to Shut Down Comair‎

Delta Air Lines Inc. plans to close its Cincinnati-based Comair Inc. feeder airline this fall, reflecting the high costs and declining ridership of the small, fuel-thirsty jets used by it and other regional carriers.

The grounding of Comair flights on Sept. 29 highlights the impact of industry consolidation on smaller airports such as Cincinnati, where passenger traffic has more than halved from its peak in 2005, Memphis and Milwaukee.

Tallest Ferris wheel rolls to reality in Vegas

What’s billed as the world’s tallest observation wheel, located in the yet-to-be-built LINQ entertainment complex on the Vegas Strip, is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The so-called “High Roller” is due to be 550 feet tall, taller than the London Eye (443 feet) or Singapore Flyer (541 feet). This week it received a key permit from Clark County to be constructed in the complex between Caesars Entertainment’s Harrah’s Las Vegas, Imperial Palace and Flamingo Las Vegas casino resorts.
