Belgian tourism officials ‘suing weather forecaster over rain

Several seaside resorts were incensed about a commercial weather forecaster that predicted bad weather for much of the summer, which hoteliers said has cost them “millions of euros” in lost trade.

The tourist officials said a report by private weather bureau Meteo Belgique, which predicted only five days above 25 Celsius in July and bad weather in the first half of August, had been “disastrous” for business.

Members of the local hotel and restaurant federation said they would now take legal action against the bureau on the grounds of publishing “misinformation”.

Inside United’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner: first flights in late 2012

United Airlines continues the fan-dance reveal of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner this week, ahead of a late 2012 rollout for the first five of Boeing’s next-gen jetliners.

First up is a tweak to United’s new livery – a sweeping gold flare running from nose to tail. United says this go-faster stripe will be exclusive to its 787 fleet and is inspired by the trademark swoop painted on each of Boeing’s aircraft.

United will collect its first Boeing 787 in late September, and after “a variety of tests and training, including completing Federal Aviation Administration conformity checks and proving runs”, United’s newest bird will start to carry paying passengers in US autumn.

Unruly Passenger, 81 and Blind, Causes 14-Hour Emergency Landing

An unruly, 81-year-old blind passenger aboard a Spirit Airlines red-eye flight from Los Angeles to Florida forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in Texas for a 14-hour layover with about 100 on board.

Spirit Airlines Airbus A319 from Los Angeles departed on time at 9:58 p.m. PT Saturday, with a scheduled landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 6 a.m. Sunday. Midway through the flight, however, the disruptive passenger forced the pilot to make an emergency landing at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport, where the roughly 100 passengers remained for most of the next day, KTRK-TV reported.
