VisitScotland hopes ‘Brave’ film will boost tourism‎

The tourism agency VisitScotland has said it is launching its biggest ever global campaign in an attempt to cash in on the launch of the animated movie Brave.

The film tells the story of a young Highland princess and has been made by the same studio behind the Toy Story series.

First Minister Alex Salmond is in California for the movie’s premiere.

VisitScotland hopes the film will boost tourism to Scotland by £140m.

Hotels tempt green travellers with carbon tracking tool‎

A group of leading hotel companies have launched a new tool designed to standardise measurement and reporting of the hospitality sector’s carbon impact.

The International Tourism Partnership (ITP) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) have collaborated with 23 global hospitality firms to produce a method of calculating the footprint of hotel stays and meetings.

The Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI), comprised of ITP and WTTC members, including Accor, Hyatt, and TUI, has developed the so-called HCMI 1.0 methodology after testing the standardised approach in different hotels across the globe.

Airline tells woman: “cover up your cleavage or don’t fly”‎

A female passenger trying to board a flight to New York was told that she wouldn’t be allowed to fly unless she covered up her cleavage.

The passenger, named only as Avital (she has asked for her last name to be withheld), contacted the US website Jezebel about the embarrassing experience.

She claims that was told by Southwest Airlines that she was dressed “inappropriately” and asked to button up her shirt or stay behind.

River cruise line offers unlimited free alcohol

All drinks will be on the house next year on Scenic Cruises’ river journeys in Europe. In 2013, it will offer unlimited complimentary alcoholic beverages at lunch, dinner and even in its in-suite mini-bars. Top-shelf brands, however, will still carry an additional charge.

The line says that change and others support its claim as offering the world’s first truly all-inclusive luxury river cruising experience. It offers private butler service for all guests, free Wi-Fi, and personal GPS-guided tours (except on the Scenic Emerald). All cruises also include shore excursions, airport transfers and gratuities.
