Caribbean to get first JW Marriott location in 2014

A high-end JW Marriott hotel is slated to open in 2014 in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

The 131-room hotel is located in the city’s Paintini district, according to Marriott.

It will feature a three-meal-a-day restaurant, a lobby bar, a lounge, a pool snack bar, a ballroom and a fitness center.

America launches its first ever tourism campaign

The U.S. has never had to rely on advertising to encourage visitors to its many iconic sites.

But in the 10 years since the 9/11 terror attacks its tourism sector has lost out to other destinations, thanks to complicated visa procedures and heightened security.

Now, in a bid to encourage more visitors from the U.K., Canada and Japan, the U.S. is releasing its first ever set of print, web and video adverts to showcase the best the country has to offer for foreign visitors.

Solidifying the notion that luxury knows no limits, luxury hotel group Ritz-Carlton debuted its long-awaited mobile app, giving luxury travelers easier access to the company’s portfolio of hotels around the world.

The app isn’t just a booking engine, though. Ritz-Carlton made it personal.

In addition to the reservations system and hotel room look-up, the Ritz-Carlton app includes personal tips from President & COO Herve Humler that identify the “hidden gems” guests shouldn’t miss when they check in (think: a Viennese crystal chandelier in Doha and a secret garden in Sanya). Additionally, the app will offer personalized suggestions to guests based on location and duration of stay.
