On my second day in Jordan we left Amman along the Desert Highway to the ancient city of Karak, home of an imposing Crusader-era castle. The castle looms high over the modern city of Karak in an eerie reminder of the city’s past. We then drove to the largest nature reserve in Jordan, the Dana Biosphere. Home to a staggering number of different plants and wildlife, the reserve is a gorgeous display of Mother Nature at her best. Finally, we arrived in Petra late in the afternoon; just in time for a stunning sunset behind the Petra mountains and a tour of the Wonder of the World by night.

Petra by Night

Who am I? I am a typical Gen-Xer and recovering cubicle-dweller who has a passion for all things travel. My site brings a unique perspective that is hard to find online. I am not a backpacker, nor am I...

Beautiful, Matt! You’ve just given me ideas for my class for next year. You explored parts of Jordan with which I was not familiar. And Petra at night! Must have been amazing. Thanks for sharing.
